Weekly reflection 2

Weekly Reflection 2

I learned that the media can cause society to behave a certain way. The media can make an impact which can affect someone who is watching. For example, reality TV can cause someone to behave a certain way that is similar to what is on the show. Reality TV is not real, but as someone who is watching the show, they are given a false reality and make them think that it is real. A person may watch the show and assume that since it is reality TV than that must be real. Reality TV is not real but they want the mass to think that it is real.

Harjo

Suzan Harjo believes that the remains of american indian bodies should not be treated like it is an artifact. American indian bodies are sold as collector's item which Harjo do not think is the right thing to do. Harjo believes that the government is wrong for keeping human remains as collector's item. Keeping the remains of American Indian bodies is the cause. The effect would be the government decision on what to do with the American Indian remains. They either can keep the remains or rebury the remains which Harjo consider to be the best thing to do.

Reading Journal Didion

Didion

The essay makes me feel different because I never wrote a diary before. Didion describes a setting that had some meaning to her. She has a so call notebook tablet that she puts her life in. The part when she had a flashback about a moment in her life. It is the feeling of nostalgia. The question helps strengthen her work because the question being asked is used to make a point.

Baker and Liu

Baker

Baker is talking to kids that are in school. More Specifically to kids that are unsure about what to do, but in general to kids that are students going to school. It reveals that Baker wants to inspire kids unlike how Mr. Feagle. He targets kids that are afraid to do what they are good at.
In the reading Baker states "Mr. Feagle was notorious among city students for dullness and inability to inspire. Despite being dull, Mr. Feagle inspired Baker."Mr. Feagle had opened a door for me. Although Baker felt that he had a chance of being a good writer. The purpose of this essay was to express yourself an be able to do what you feel is right. The tone of this essay would be informal.

Liu

Liu uses description to describe his story about a china town visit. He describe in detail what he sees, hear, and how he felt. Liu narrates his story in an formal tone. Narrative freewrite for Assignment 1

Narrative freewrite for Assignment 1

Pull over! Pull over! Stop the vehicle!!! I am so nervous I looked at my rear view mirror and saw the cops. One, two, three I said to myself. "Three freaking cops cars great." My mind rushed with crazy thoughts. No dont mess up. Remain Calm. Be still, dont look so anxious. What did I even do? Why is there three cops cars behind me? A fat donut eating cop came out of the first vehicle behind me as soon as I stop. I park the car near an empty gas station fill with people looking at me from the nearby neighborhood. I hear yelling but I wasnt sure about what. I'm thinking it was along the lines of "you cant run from the po-po. They must be teasing me. Sir! Open your window the cop yelling at me from the outside. The rest of the cops stay in their car. The cop hands were on his gun. I am shaking. This is the first time i get pull over. My head started brainstorming of all the possibilities that I could've done wrong. Cops Stupid Cops. The cop takes my license. I hand him my insurance and wait. I am given a traffic ticket for running a red light. How and why do they need three cop cars. I take a deep breath and started my car up. I began to breath. In and out In and out In and out, i dont know what to do with a traffic ticket.

Once more to the lake

Once more to the Lake - WHITE

Once more to the lake by E.B White is a strong narrative because it describes E.B White's feelings about going to the lake. E.B tells a story about the time he visit a lake. By telling a story E.B white is narrating a vacation he had as a child. He started his introduction by explaining a vacation he had and how he felt. It is a strong narrative because his opening paragraph has an informal thesis. Also, it describes his past.

The most effective narration mode is first person. By using I and we, E.B white explains his feelings. He wanted to convey to the reader that the father is the son, and the son is the father. The father was similar to the son. It shows that the vacation trip to that specific lake goes on for another generation.

"I began to sustain the illusion that he was I, and therefore, by simple transposition, that I was my father." The quote shows that the father felt like how he felt when he was small. This shows that the vacation trip to that lake went on for another generation. It basically gives him memories about how he act when he was small himself.
